Welsh Terrier - Terrier Group

Originating in Wales, the Welsh Terrier is a breed that was bred for vermin hunting which included fox and badgers as well as rats. They have a wiry coat that is of medium length and is colored in tan with black. Standing form 14-15 inches at the shoulder, the Welsh Terrier is a small breed that weighs 18-22 lbs. This dog breed is ever playful and curious however remain under control to be kept as a companion and not a hunter. The Welsh Terrier may be independent as well as shy of strangers and other dogs. They have a tendency to be noisy and dig in the yard. The are in need of about an hour of exercise per day which should include a game such as fetch. This breed is more laid back than playful. Their coat requires grooming twice a week and clipping every two to three months. For the right person with time and obedience this dog is a good choice. Like most terrier's the Welsh Terrier is an instinctual hunter and may be reserved or inclined to do whatever it wants. Strict yet gentle obedience is necessary to maintain it's character and ensure that it is a loveable friend.
