Welsh Springer Spaniel - Sporting Group

Originating in Wales, the Welsh Springer Spaniel is bred to flush and retrieve birds. Standing from 17-19 inches at the shoulder and weighing 40-50 lbs. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is a breed that is laid back and extremely loyal to their family. They are an instinctual hunter and are great outdoors companions. Their coat is colored in red and white and is relatively a short length. Exercise such as running and playing games is what they love doing most. Grooming should be done weekly to maintain their beautiful coat. They are relatively easy to train though at times they may not be compliant with other dogs or strangers. With the right energy and confidence between owner and the stranger this dog should be trusting. The Welsh Springer Spaniel is an expert hunter with land and water. They are not as popular in show as most spaniels however they are sought after for their hunting abilities. As an instinctual hunter prospective owners should take into effect that this breed may be independent and may hunt even without training. Their coat needs grooming weekly to maintain it's beauty and flat appearance. Bathing can be done once a month in cold weather and twice a month in warm weather depending on your dogs skin condition.
