Standard Schnauzer - Working Group

Originating in Germany, the Standard Schnauzer is used to rat and guard. Their coat is wiry and can be found in pepper and black or pure black. Their coat needs combing weekly and scissoring and shaping yearly. Known as simply a household pet and guardian it is a dog thay may seem intimidating due it's seriousness. Standard Schnauzer's are alert and highly intelligent. They became beloved dogs in show due to their sharp looks. At the marketplace they became the most popular dog's for guarding carts. Today they are most popular in the show and obedience rings. For a dog that is versatile they have also been used in police work. Some Schnauzer's may be dog aggressive, suspicious of strangers and mischievous. Loyal to their family, the Schnauzer is a dog that will guard and protect those who are closest to it. They are full of energy and would enjoy playing games for hours as well as going on long walks. Standing 17-20 inches and weighing 35-45 lbs the Standard Schnauzer is a great dog to own and take seriously.
