Skye Terrier - Terrier Group

Originating in Scotland, the Skye Terrier is a dog bred for fox and otter hunting. They stand from 10-12 inches at the shoulder and weigh 30-40 lbs. Their coat is long and flowing and is colored in black, blue, gray, silver, fawn and cream usually with black ears. This breed is small however they are courageous and show little fear. The Skye Terrier is possibly one of the most devoted and loyal dogs that their is. The love of their family is second to none and for this reason they may be protective around strangers and other dogs. Their history includes being kept by royalty including Queen Victoria. This dog breed does not have an excessive energy level so only moderate exercise is needed. They are rather playful and happy go lucky around their family. Grooming should be done bi-weekly especially around their eyes which are covered with their hair. For the right owner who wants a small watchdog. This breed is a good choice. They need socialization and affection around every person and pet they encounter as a young dog.
