Siberian Husky - Working Group

The Siberian Husky originated in Siberia where it was used by the Chukchi people for sled pulling and Reindeer herding. It is not a large dog and for it's size can pull ample amounts of weight. This dog breed weighs 35-60 lbs and stands 20-24 inches. It can be found in almost any color and needs to be groomed twice a week. They are still used today for sled pulling and it was this task that made them famous. In 1925 their was a diptheria epidemic in Nome, Alaska. A team of Huskies was assembled to carry an antitoxin to the isolated town. The dog's made it to Nome in a record breaking five and one half days spanning some 674 miles to prevent an epidemic. They are still used today even to run in races such as the Alaskan Iditarod race which is 1150 mile's. The Husky has almost infinite stamina and drive. They need to remain active because of their natural tendency to be energetic. For this reason you must exercise this dog at least for an hour a day. If they are not exercised their energy will become bottled up and they may become destructive. Carrying a happy and friendly personality along with being mischievous. Siberian Husky owners need to be alert for their dog's curious ways.
