Shih Tzu - Toy

The Shih Tzu is an ancient dog breed that originated in China.The Shih Tzu stands from 8-11 inches at the withers and weighs from 10-16 lbs. In ancient times it was revered in China. These dogs have long silky coats and do not shed hair and thus are good for people who have dog allergies. For its small size the nickname "Lion Dog" does not seem appropriate. However the Shih Tzu does have a guard instinct like any other dog. This dog breed is small and has a small muzzle with large deep eyes. It can have beautiful long almost perfect hair with the right grooming. This attribute gives it a great show dog popularity as well as owner popularity. It is an easy dog to own however may be stubborn or occasionally show signs of aggression if not treated properly. Make no mistake these dogs are protective of their owners and territory. If there is a small dog with a big personality the Shih Tzu is certainly it.
