The Rhodesian Ridgeback was originally bred to hunt lions. They are defined by the ridge that runs along their back. This gives the dog breed its name. They are at home in the outdoors and would be glad to go on a hike with you. Fearless and loyal, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a dominant breed. Naturally protective as well as having a high prey drive. You will be hard pressed to find a more dominant hunting dog. The Rhodesian Ridgeback may be dog aggressive or small animal aggressive. It is eager to please its owner as well as protect its family. Adequate exercise is necessary to please this dog. This dog breed weighs from 70-80 lbs and stands from 24-28 inches at the withers. Males are heavier and taller than females.
