Portuguese Water Dog - Working Group
Being a unique dog is the signature of the Portuguese Water Dog. This dog actually is a fisherman. It was able to retrieve fish nets and herd fish into the nets on the coast of Portugal. They are the dog pride of Portugal. Standing 18-23 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 35-60 lbs. The Portuguese Water Dog has a curly coat that is black, brown, white, with combinations of all of these colors. The standard color is black and is the most common. Known as cao de agua in Portugal or "dog of water" this breed loves the water. They have an all around great temperament. The Portuguese Water Dog is a great family pet due to it's caring traits. Grooming needs to be done daily and coat clipping must be done monthly. With this breed you will have a dog that needs to play often and is full of energy to keep you busy.
