Plott - Hound Group

Originating in the United States, the Plott is a dog that was bred to hunt and track large game such as boar ( feral hogs ) and bear. Their coat is short and smooth and be colored in brindle ( as shown above ), and is mainly found in brindle with exceptions such as solid colors of brown. The Plott is an independent breed that is ever keen to hunt. They are loyal and fearless but at the same time should be well mannered and affectionate. Exercise should be done for about an hour a day. It can include games such as fetch or even a working game such as scent tracking. The Plott is at times skeptical of unknown people but they should accept them after they have been exposed to them and trusted. At times they may be dog aggressive but this is not found in all cases. Their short coat requires minimal grooming though it should be groomed to remove dead hair. In general they may be difficult to train but with time and early obedience they are eager to learn and please. To own a Plott is like having a devoted hunter as well as a warm best friend. They stand from 20-25 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 40-60 lbs.
