Pharaoh Hound - Hound Group

pharaoh hound

Originating in Malta the Pharaoh Hound was bred for hunting rabbits. Their coat is short and smooth and is colored in light brown. The Pharaoh Hound is an active dog that may be reserved in the house but likes to run and hunt while outside. This breed is generally playful and loveable with small children and other dogs. However, they may show a prey drive towards small animals by chasing them. In general they like to please their owners and are devoted to their family though they like to spend time being themselves. Their slender muscular build allows them to run at high speeds at work for chasing rabbits. Exercise such as a run of the leash as well as a long walk is sufficient. Their coat needs minimal grooming mainly to remove dead hairs. They stand from 22-25 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 45-50 lbs. The Pharaoh Hound mostly resembles the Greyhound and Whippet and is still used for the same hunting purposes.
