Old English Sheepdog- Herding Group

Originating in England, the Old English Sheepdog was bred for herding sheep as the name implies. They are relaxed and docile although they may be over exuberant. This dog breed like many other herding breeds needs to work and may look at people as a flock of sheep at times. The Old English Sheepdog is capable of protection as it was intended to watch over sheep. Their coat is long and straight and is portrayed in the movie the Shaggy Dog which is about a man that occasionally turns into an Old English Sheepdog. It can be colored in grey, blue and blue merle sometimes with white. This dog breed weighs from 65-85 lbs and stands from 23-25 inches at the shoulder. Personality traits such as being affectionate, loving and trustworthy make this a great dog to own. Grooming should be done three times a week to keep the coat soft. They are adorable and unique looking and almost intriguing because their coat is so plush. You may wonder how they see through all that hair.
