Norwegian Lundehund - Non-Sporting Group
The pride of Norway, these dogs were originally bred to hunt Puffin (a small bird). For this task a dog was needed that was coordinated enough to manuever in rocky terrain. As well as fast enough to catch the bird. A unique feature this dog carries is that it has six toes. Perhaps genetically this was ingenious because it allows for the dog to have better traction and more coordination in rugged terrain such as cliffs. Standing 13-15 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 30-35 lbs. This dog breed is a great family companion and it's small stature makes it easy to handle. However, they are still like most dogs, loyal and protective of their family. Being playful and agile, the Norwegian Lundehund would love to play ball or frisbee. They are unique looking and are colored in brown, reddish brown as well as tan. The breed is also colored with distinct black points with white on their body as well as white with red.
