Norwegian Elkhound - Hound Group
A breed kept and revered by Vikings and now it's beloved Norway. Serving more as a hunter than a hound. The Norwegian Elkhound is strikingly similar to the Keeshond in appearance. It's distinctive curled tail and blackish gray coat serves as great insulation in the cold. A hunter of large game including elk and bear, it is a fearless guard and sharp dog. Grooming regularly is recommended for it's soft plush coat. Due to it's instinctual hunting demeanor it needs to be well trained with obedience. Despite this the Norwegian Elkhound though somewhat protective will adjust to children and new situations. Standing about 18-22 inches tall and weighing between 44-52 pounds. This is a medium sized dog that is energetic and cuddly. Hunting dogs should be introduced to other dogs and smaller animals young to start the process of being somewhat submissive.
