Norfolk Terrier - Terrier Group

Originating in England, the Norfolk Terrier is a dog like the Norwich Terrier that was bred to be a ratter as well as to flush fox on a hunt. They stand about 10 inches and weigh about 12 lbs. Their wiry coat is of medium length and colored in different shades of red as well as black and tan. It needs grooming bi-weekly. The Norfolk Terrier is a dog that is ever alert, mischievous, independent, stubborn and courageous. This dog breed is a born hunter. They tend to dig and bark at other animals. They may be gentle however their loyalty and judgement makes them tough. It is a dog that has high energy levels and a tendency to be less affectionate than many breeds. Exploring is an instinct that they are born with and gives them an independent attitude. They are not the easiest dogs to train but with time and patience they should listen. For the most part they are accepting of strangers and other pets. However, they can be fresh with other animals. Their history includes being a popular pet among college students in England as well as a popular dog with women. They are physically small but mentally resilient.
