Miniature Pinscher - Toy Group

The Miniature Pinscher is a German breed of dog. It is thought to be the most dominant of all the toy breed dogs. Originally bred to hunt vermin such as rat, today it is less of a working dog. The breed can still be used to work for hunting. Red, stag red, black or chocolate with tan or rust markings as well blue and fawn are all different colors of its coat. Owning a Miniature Pinscher should be a pleasant experience due to its adaptability with children, dogs, cats and strangers or new people that it has been introduced to. Weighing in at about 8-13 lbs and standing about one foot at the withers is the normal size of the dog. The temperament of the dog is to protect and alert its owner of any new occurrences. For this ability it has developed a watch dog state of mind. However, the main energetic happy go lucky attitude it carries will allow you to love the dog. As a small dog and the biggest of the little dogs you should find yourself with a dog that is easy to care for and not too stubborn. For a first time dog owner this would be a great choice. Miniature Pinschers are great at escaping enclosures. They are known in the dog world as the "Houdini" dog. Regular exercise is necessary to maintain a healthy relationship with the Miniature Pinscher. Without regular exercise this type of dog may become aggressive. Barking excessively is one of the main side effects of not exercising your Miniature Pinscher. Aggression towards other dogs may also be one of the results of not exercising this dog enough. A small or large setting is sufficient as long as the dog is given adequate exercise.
