Lhasa Apso - Non-Sporting Group

Originally only kept by Buddhist monks in Tibet. The Lhasa Apso was occasionally given as a gift to people by the Dalai Lama. Bred to be a house guard, today the Lhasa Apso is more of a companion. Often carrying a stubborn streak. This dog breed will become agitated when put into the hands of irresponsible ownership. As it's country of origin being Tibet it is known like the Tibetan Terrier as a holy dog. Lhasa's are believed to carry the reincarnated souls of dead monks. With lot's of hair this dog needs grooming daily. It's a common occurrence to see these dog's shaved down with short hair. Standing 10-11 inches and weighing 13-15 lbs they are a small dog. Their coat is colored in black, cream, gray, gold and black/white. They are a great companion and carry a feeling of small toughness with them. For the right owner this dog is a great companion. Lhasa's love to be with their family and children. As a small dog they still carry a touch of intimidation with them. They may show a guardian side in the house or outside.
