Leonberger - Working Group

Originating in Germany, the Leonberger which was just recently recognized by the AKC in 2010 is a large dog. This gentle giant is well bred to rescue, guard and be a great dog with the proper obedience training. He is vigilant as well as loveable and majestic in stature and strength. Standing 28-32 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 150-180 lbs. This dog is a great big specimen. The size of the dog should be taken into effect if you would like to own a Leonberger. Large dominant breeds such as this dog breed need to be strictly trained. Children need to adapt to this and all large dog breeds. The Leonberger coat is colored in lion-yellow, red, red-brown and sand with a black mask. It has a mane similar to that of a lion in its thick fur. Nicknamed the "Gentle Lion". The Leonberger is a great companion and protector for those who love big dogs. Adequate exercise is needed to keep your Leonberger in shape. Grooming should be done frequently to prevent shedding from its long coat. If you would like a big, strong, loyal and most of all respectable dog. This dog breed will suit your every animal loving need.
