Lakeland Terrier - Terrier Group

Originating in England, the Lakeland Terrier was bred for vermin hunting such as rats or foxes. Their coat is wiry and of medium length and is colored in solid blue, black, light brown or red with or without a saddle (back) of like colors. Standing from 13-15 inches at the shoulder and weighing 15-18 lbs. The Lakeland Terrier is a dog that is ever curious, alert, loyal, playful and affectionate. They are in general not well adapted towards other pets and strangers. Their aggression towards hunting is an instinct that is not easy to train out of the dog. It is a dog with high energy levels that is in need of a long walk or game every day. Their coat needs combing bi-weekly and clipping three to four times a year. The Lakeland Terrier may not be the ideal choice for everyone due to their independent and aggressive ways. Their history includes being a farm dog as they were a valuable asset. This dog is a great choice for the experienced dog owner that may need the dog to work at tasks such as ratting. At the present time they are not a very popular choice with dog fanciers.
