Icelandic Sheepdog - Herding Group
Originating in Iceland, the Icelandic Sheepdog was bred for herding cattle as well as sheep and horses. They are also a watchdog that will become alert and bark when something approaches their territory. Their personality is that of a lively, quick, hardened, great herder. Their coat is of medium length and can be found in light brown, black as well as white. It needs grooming once each week to remove dead hair. The Icelandic Sheepdog is eager to learn and should be easy to train. Standing from 13-15 inches at the shoulder and weighing 25-30 lbs. The Icelandic Sheepdog is a small and athletic dog. They are the pride of Iceland and have been portrayed on stamps in their homeland. This dog breed is a companion as well as a sentinel. Their tail is curled like that of the the Finnish Lapphund, another Scandinavian herding breed. They should be good with other dogs as well as strangers. However their tendency to be a watchdog may make them confrontational.
