Gordon Setter - Sporting Group

Originating in Scotland, the Gordon Setter is a retriever mainly of birds while on the hunt. They stand 23-28 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 55-80 lbs. Their coat is of medium length and is colored in black and tan. The Gordon Setter in general is a great companion, and is known to be loving and affectionate. When they are working they are highly focused on the task at hand. Due to this trait they may be independent and stubborn at times. This breed has a high energy level and as a result needs adequate exercise every day. The Gordon Setter is the slowest of all setter's while on the hunt. At times they may be suspicious of people they do not know and aggressive towards unknown dogs. For an athletic hunter and intelligent retriever the Gordon Setter is a great choice for the outdoorsman. As a companion this breed needs to be trained and socialized with other animals and people at a young age. They are apt to be protective with an almost guard like attitude while most setter's are laid back.
