Golden Retriever - Sporting Group

Originating in England, the Golden Retriever is a dog that may be the most All-American pet. They are a great hunting retriever although the breed is mostly known as a companion. Their coat is light golden or dark golden and is of medium length. In show light golden is more preferable. Standing from 22-25 inches and weighing 60-80 lbs they are a dog that must be controlled. For the most part they are well mannered, intelligent, loyal and obedient. However, some Golden Retriever's have been known to be overly protective and vicious. The Golden Retriever is a great swimming dog and loves to play fetch. Instinctually they are not hard to train at fetch because it apart of what they were bred for. They are apt to grow large and show toughness in their daily endeavours. This dog breed is very popular and is trusted as a reliable companion. Their obedience and loving temperament should span from strangers to other pets as well as children. They are highly intelligent and eager to learn. Exercise should be done adequately and should involve water when available. To own this dog is to trust in what many other dog owners enjoy, man's intelligent, athletic best friend.
