German Shorthaired Pointer - Sporting Group

The German Shorthaired Pointer is able to work in all types of terrain. It is characterized as a gun dog working in the field to hunt, retrieve and flush out quail, raccoon, deer and possibly anything that it feels it can scout. Weighing from 55-70 lbs and standing 23-26 inches at the shoulder it has a formidable build. Colored in black, dark brown, black/white and tan/white. It needs minimal grooming and adequate exercise as well as some sort of working regiment. A German Breed, it descended from British and French breed's mixed with the existing German Shorthaired Pointers. Naturally attracted to work, this dog breed needs to be exercised almost limitless to ensure a happy and stable disposition. Without the proper exercise like any other dog it will become destructive and may have a tendency to escape. The gun dog name comes from it's ability to work next to a hunter with a gun. Loyal and devoted it will guard and fill your life with love through it's companionship. As with most dogs this breed is easy to handle when it is in a trusting loving environment. This dog is intense when it points and is so focused it has become a meister in the field.
