German Pinscher - Working Group

Native to Germany, this dog is another German dog that was bred to guard.
Known as the Rattenfanger hundreds of years ago for ratting and being a watchdog. This dog breed had it's name changed to Pinscher and was still valued for it's rodent catching skills. The German Pinscher was used to work around the farm stables. After World War II the breed almost became extinct and was not too popular with dog owners. The courage and tenacity that this dog exhibits is second to none. It's guardian and playful mentality makes it a loyal dog. These dogs need above average exercise and play such as fetch each day. Standing 17-20 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 25-35 lbs. The German Pinscher is colored in fawn, red to stag red, black/tan and blue/tan. It's coat is short and needs minimal grooming however washing is needed. Like many working dogs, the German Pinscher may be wary of strangers and aggressive around other pets. With a guardian mentality it may surprise many that the German Pinscher loves to play and is very loveable.
