Flat Coated Retriever - Sporting Group

Originating in England, the Flat Coated Retriever is a known water retriever. They resemble the Curly Coated Retriever in appearance except their coat is not curly. Their coat like the name implies is flat and colored in solid liver or black. Standing from 22-25 inches and weighing from 60-70 lbs this dog breed is a great asset for those who have water in their hunt. The Flat Coated Retriever is able to retrieve birds such as ducks as well as fish and other debris in the water. This dog breed is happy, loyal and playful like most retrievers. They love playing games of fetch in the water. Fetch stimulates their retrieving instinct. Which all retrievers have. The breed is rather easy to train and is not as energetic in the house as it is outside. World War II had brought the Flat Coated Retriever as with many other dogs to the brink of extinction. However they were able to make a come back and thrive. Though they are not as popular as the Labrador and Golden Retrievers. They are still used to hunt and as a companion. If you love the water than you will enjoy this expert swimmer at your side for water adventures.
