Finnish Lapphund - Herding Group
Originating in the Scandinavian regions of Finland and Sweden the Finnish Lapphund was bred to herd Reindeer. They are exuberant and active and also relaxed and gentle. This breed is dedicated to herding and shows it's skills with intensity. While with people it should be gentle and obedient. Standing from 19-20 inches at the shoulder and weighing 40-45 lbs. The Finnish Lapphund is built for cold weather and quickness. They are focused dogs that need exercise for an hour a day or a game each day which will excite them. Their coat is of medium length and can be found in black, light brown, as well as brindle. Grooming needs to be done weekly to remove dead hairs. Today they are more of a companion dog than a worker however they as well as all breeds have an instinct to work for what they were bred to do. The Finnish Lapphund may herd people and for this reason should be restricted to be dominant over their owner. They have a distinct curled tail.
