The Feral Hog is a non native species to the United States. They are basically and animal that was brought to the United States as livestock. The Feral Hog escaped from it's domestication and began breeding to the point where they have become a nuisance. Since they are not a native species their are generally no hunting restrictions on them. These large pigs can weigh in excess of 400 pounds so the catch dog should wear body armor.
Their are many different types of dog's that have been bred to catch Wild Boar. Among these dog's are the Great Dane, American Bulldog, American Pitbull Terrier and dog's that belong to the Hound group. The technique that these dog's use to catch Wild Boar are to bite and hold by the head (primarily the ears) or neck. Since Wild Boar are an invasive species meaning that they are not naturally part of the ecosystem. Catch dog's are becoming more of a commodity. Hunting Wild Boar is a risky and dangerous task because Wild Boar have tusks and may charge at the person hunting. Their tusks may hurt a hunter or injure a dog.
