Similar to the American Cocker Spaniel this dog breed is known as the Cocker Spaniel in the United Kingdom. In show it is known as the English Cocker Spaniel. Bred to flush game, it has served this purpose since the 16th century. The English Cocker Spaniel is the second most popular dog in the UK. Unlike the American Cocker Spaniel this dog is still used for hunting. The hunting English Cocker Spaniel is shorter in stature and has abundant energy. While the show type has a longer more defined coat and is more laid back. Similar to the American Cocker Spaniel this breed can also suffer from "avalanche of rage" syndrome which is prevalent in solid colored but not multicolored dogs. It stands 15-17 inches tall weighing from 26-34 lbs. The coat is medium length and is colored in black, red and tan, gold, gold and white and black and white.
