The Doberman Pinscher is a well known guard dog that originated in Germany. Known for its slender and compact body. This dog breed is one of the most highly used guard dogs in the world. The Doberman Pinscher comes in two colors. Black and blue with shades of brown as well. This dog stands 24 -28 inches at withers and weighs 60 -100 lbs. Females are heavier and shorter than males. The Doberman is highly committed to its owner. It may be hesitant and wary of strangers. Usually this is a trait that was bred into its guard instinct. Early socialization with other animals is key to stopping aggression. Though it is a German born dog, it is certainly well known and popular in the U.S.A. as a dominant dog. This may cause a stereotype that it may not be able to be a pet. This is not true, the Doberman does not need to be used as a guard. Just like any other dog, this dog can be trained to a be a docile companion. However given the proper circumstances, it will guard.
