Collie - Herding Group
The Collie originated in Scotland as a sheep herder. Their coat may be rough (long) or smooth (short). It is colored in sable/white, tricolor, blue merle and white. Standing 22-26 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 50-75 lbs. "Lassie" of the television series made the Rough Collie one of the most popular breeds in America. The longer hair of the Rough Collie makes it more popular than the Smooth Collie. Sensitive, loyal, gentle and eager to please it's owner and family. The Collie is a dog that needs adequate exercise such as a run or play session each day. Dating back to the 1800's the Collie has been a favorite of the upper class. They are an all around adaptable dog with other pets and strangers. Training should be done firm as the Collie can be stubborn. Rough Collies need brushing every other day while Smooth Collies need brushing weekly. Barking is apart of their personality.
