The pride of China with it's plush coat. Chow Chow's are a guard dog with the ability to herd and hunt. This dog breed is a medium sized specimen weighing 44-70 lbs. They stand 18-22 inches at the shoulder and require daily grooming. Originating in China, it was introduced to the Western world in the 19th century. Though it was bred to hunt and herd it is not commonly used for this purpose anymore. At least in the United States and other countries outside of China. With the independent and stubborn mind of a working dog. They are well suited to guard however feel wary altogether. For this reason socialization is needed as a puppy.
