Cat Anxiety
Does your cat have anxiety? Cats may develop anxiety when they are taken away from their environment. If your cat was rescued from a shelter or a good samaritan. The cat may become anxious when it leaves its past environment. Many cats will hide or run from their owner in their new home. Being with cats is also a factor that causes anxiety. Going from a home where they were surrounded by a cat to a non-cat home is another cause of anxiety. As an owner you should be patient with your new cat and the cat will recover and accept you as a part of its new friendship. Cat anxiety can occur with an anxious vibe in a household from people or from a new environment in general. Allowing your cat to trust you by giving them something to scratch. Such asa an item you can find at your local pet store as well as something to play with should allow them to adjust to their new environment.

Cats Marking Their Territory
Cats mark their territory when they scratch objects. They release a scent when they scratch that marks their territory. If you have a cat that scratches your furniture you need to designate another object for them to scratch. It would be wise to designate an area for your cat to scratch that it can't lay on. Scratching this fixture is good so that your furniture doesn't get ruined. Scratching can be induced by spreading catnip on an area that you want a cat to scratch. Balloons can be placed on an area that you don't want a cat to scratch. If a cat scratches an area and a balloon is placed there to pop when scratched to scare the cat. Chances are the next time your cat will think twice about scratching that area. Cat's are not perfect and occasionally may stray from their normal scratching areas. The key is to make sure that it is not something important such as a bed or your favorite furniture.
