Cardigan Welsh Corgi - Herding Group

Originating in Wales, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi was bred to herd cattle. They are a happy go lucky, confident dog that likes to work. Their relaxed personality makes them seem laid back but they are somewhat of a clown. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is generally good with strangers and may or may not be confrontational with other dogs. Obedience and early exposure to other dogs as a puppy and throughout it's life should help this breed behave. They are in need of about an hour of exercise per day or a game will please them. Their coat is short and rugged and may be colored in red, brindle as well as blue merle or black. It needs grooming every week to maintain it's natural texture. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a breed that is intelligent and eager to learn. Training should be done with repetition and by knowing what the dog likes and doesn't like. They stand from 11-12 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 28-35 lbs. If you find this dog nipping at your feet, it's just a funny way of letting you know it is herding. As this is the technique they use to herd cattle.
