Cairn Terrier - Terrier Group

Originating in Scotland, the Cairn Terrier is a dog that was bred for eradicating vermin. This breed stands about 10 inches and weighs about 13 lbs. Their coat is rugged and can be medium or short. It can be found in any color except for white. They have high energy levels and are jovial as well as playful. At times they may bark excessively as well as dig. They are stubborn and may be difficult to train. The Cairn Terrier is a terrier that may be independent and aggressive towards other dogs. Independent traits in terriers are found in these dogs because they like to hunt. It's coat needs grooming weekly and cleaning of dead hair a few times yearly. Exercise should be done for about an hour a day. In general this breed can be wary of strangers, energetic and independent. At the same time they are affectionate, loyal and loveable. Their history includes being in the movie The Wizard of Oz as the dog "Toto".
