Bouvier des Flandres - Herding Group

bouvier des flandres

Originating in Belgium as a cattle herder. The Bouvier des Flandres is a stark looking dog that is bred to herd and protect cattle. It also will protect the property or farm that it is working on. Their coat is short and of a medium rugged length. It can be colored in fawn, salt and pepper, gray, black and brindle. They stand from 24-28 inches at the shoulder and weigh 69-90 lbs. Exercising needs to be done for about an hour a day. Though their energy levels are not too high. This independent breed may not be as active with playing as it is guarding. There is no mistaking thay they enjoy guarding and for this reason are independent at times. However, they are also loyal, family orientated dogs that are protective. The Bouvier des Flandres at times is wary of strangers and on occasion other dogs or pets. Brushing needs to be done twice a week while scissoring should occur every three months.
