Border Collie - Herding Group

The Border Collie is the world's most popular herding dog. Full of energy and born to work in show. This dog breed was recognized by the name Border Collie in 1915 though it had been around for centuries. Intelligent breeding has produced a lively dog full of endurance and stamina for herding livestock. A favorite in agility trials, this is a great dog to get started in agility competitions. They are easy to train because they love to please. Border Collie's need to be exercised and fed well or they may become destructive or aggressive. Standing 18-21 inches at the shoulder and weighing 31-49 lbs. This dog needs grooming daily due to it's long coat. The coat can be colored in black, cream, gray and blue as well as other mixed colors. If you live an active lifestyle, this is the right breed for you. If the Border Collie remains active it is a great friend. When it is not exercised it could become troubled. With a strong instinct to herd you may find this dog herding you. In a non-working home this is another reason why the Border Collie is not for everyone.
