Black and Tan Coonhound - Hound Group
Originating in the United States, the Black and Tan Coonhound is a dog that was bred for the hunting of raccoons. Their coat is short and is colored in black and tan. They are relaxed and easy going as well as almost lazy indoors. On the flip side when they are outside, their hunting instincts come into effect as their enormous sense of smell engulfs their thinking patterns. The Black and Tan Coonhound is a born hunter and will stop at nothing once they have found a scent. They may be difficult to train but with the right obedience they will comply. This dog breed is generally good with children and other animals however they may also act wary or tough minded in their presence. Standing from 24-25 inches at the shoulder and weighing from 60-70 lbs it is a large breed. They require grooming once every week. The Black and Tan Coonhound is a drooler and does not bark, they bay and howl. Most of these dogs that are owned today are used for hunting.
