Basset Hound - Hound Group

The Basset Hound has a mysterious past although it is considered to be from Britain. Through the ages it has been kept in the company of royalty. A dwarf like bloodhound, the Basset is an ideal hound that can be used in packs to hunt due to it's sociality. This dog breed is noticed quite easily for it's long ears and short stocky stature. Colored in any hound color including black/white/tan, gold/white and tan/white. The Basset needs minimal grooming and above average exercise. One must be patient with this dog's nose. Like the Beagle it may lead the dog on a scent trail while walking. Good with children and renowned as a cute family companion. The only part of a Basset Hound that may not be easy is the patience needed to train this dog. Though small in height at 13-14 inches it still weighs between 40-60 lbs. Recognized today as a companion rather than a hunter. Generally speaking the thinner Basset's are the best trackers and hunters. They may look clumsy but the Basset is well known for it's mobility in the more diffficult parts of the natural world.
