The Australian Cattle Dog is also known as the Blue Heeler and Red Heeler. The names come from the two colors of the dogs being red and blue. The word heeler in their name comes from their instinct to nip at the heels of cattle. This a dog from Australia that was bred to drive cattle. The dog is built for extreme conditions. This dog breed can take cattle over long distances in rugged terrain. Since this a working breed it does have a good amount of energy. It is intelligent and responds to commands well. They are known to be energetic and excited. The Australian Cattle Dog is loyal and protective of its owner as well as possessions that are around it. For this reason you may find it trying to herd you or your children. It is a medium sized dog , 17-20 inches at the withers and 44-65 lbs.
