Anatolian Shepherd Dog - Working Group
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog has been a guardian for centuries. It may have descended from Roman war dogs that were in Turkey thousands of years ago. They are mainly used to guard and herd flocks of livestock. The Anatolian Shepherd stands from 27-29 inches and weighs between 80-150 lbs. It's coat is short to rough and can be found in any color but fawn with a black mask is the most common. This dog breed has a relaxed temperament. It is serious about being a guard dog and for this reason is suspicious of strangers. Devotion and loyalty towards it's family is a common trait. Exercise such as a long walk or run each day is mandatory. Grooming should be done twice weekly to remove dead hair. These dogs have low energy and may be difficult to train. They are more apt to guard than to be playful. Working through guarding makes this dog a great choice for those who need a guardian.
