American Staffordshire Terrier - Terrier Group

The American Staffordshire Terrier or "Amstaff" is the titan of the terrier's. Created in the United States from crossing Bulldogs with a terrier. It is one of the most controversial bully breed dog's that their is. Banned in many cities and towns due to it's reputation as a fighter. The "Amstaff" is a dog that has found itself in the hands of the wrong owners and for this reason has overpopulated dog pounds. They are funny, stern, intimidating and stubborn. They still manage to thrive in show and as great companions to the right family. This dog breed may not be able to get along with other dogs if they are not socialized at a young age. Skittish or scared strangers may agitate this dog and for this reason they need to be handled with dominance. It is not a Pitbull though it is a bully breed. The American Staffordshire Terrier stands 17-19 inches at the shoulder and weighs from 55-70 lbs. The coat is short and can be any color or combination. Exercise needs to be done in adequate amounts each day as well as games or anything that pleases the dog. Physically there may not be a more athletic specimen than the "Amstaff" and all Pitbull tagged breeds.
