American English Coonhound - Hound Group
Originating in the south of the United States, the American English Coonhound is a dog that was bred to hunt vermin such as foxes and raccoon. They are dedicated hunters and are eager to hunt as well as follow a scent. Standing from 24-25 inches at the shoulder and weighing 50-60 lbs. The American English Coonhound is a dog that is athletic, active and built for speed. They should be gentle with strangers and other dogs. Though they do have a high prey drive. Like the Bluetick Coonhound, Redbone Coonhound, Black and Tan Coonhound and English Coonhound. They are noisy at the sense of a scent they are on the trail of. Their coat is short and can be found in the colors of black and white, red and white as well as ticked colors such as blue and red. Training should be done in repetition as well as the tolerance of their scenthound instincts. The American English Coonhound is a dog that needs adequate exercise due to it's active nature.
