Afghan Hound - Hound Group
Originating in Afghanistan the Afghan Hound is a dog that was bred for hunting rabbit and gazelle in the harsh Afghanistan mountain terrain. They are a fast sighthound that is built for speed. This dog breed is a natural hunter which means that it may have a tendency to chase small animals. The Afghan Hound is a dog that is caring and are known to be funny at times. Exercise should be done in the form of a run off of the leash as well as a long walk or game each day. Their coat is long and soft and is colored in all colors. They are a dog that has been kept by the upper class as a symbol of fashion. Grooming needs to be done about three times a week in the form of combing. In general they may be shy and wary of strangers and at times show a high prey drive around small animals. The Afghan Hound is stubborn and out of control at times which means training needs to persistent and firm. They stand from 25-28 inches at the shoulder and weigh from 55-60 lbs.
